Meter Reading
How To Read Your Meter
Cornhusker Power customers live over a widely scattered area and it
is not economically possible for an employee to read each rural meter.
To keep operating expenses to a minimum, we ask that each customer read
their meter the first of every month. However, Cornhusker employees read
meters where there is a large concentration of homes (see notation on
your bill) and for some industrial and commercial customers.
Bills are mailed at the end of every month. After reading your meter
on the FIRST of the month, you can:
- Mail - Accurately record the reading
on the bill stub and return the stub with the reading
to the office with payment of the previous month's
bill.
- E-mail - Submit meter reading on-line (above). The
meter reading that you submit is used to compute the next bill for service.
- Phone - Phone the meter reading
to Cornhusker Power Billing department at (402) 564-2821
or (800) 955-2773. Please have your account number
ready when reporting the reading by phone.
Prompt reading of your meter will prevent inconsistent
or estimated billings. When a reading is not received
by the 12th of the month, an estimate is based on the
past three months' usage. After three months of estimating,
a Cornhusker Power employee must drive to the meter
and read it. A fee of $20 is then added to the following
month's bill.
Read your meter on the first of every month.
Here's how:
Cylometer - This meter has actual
numbers in the squares. Simply enter the numbers exactly
as you see them on the meter.
Dial Meter - This meter reads the
dials from left to right. On each dial, read the lowest
number to which the dial hand points. For example, if
the pointer is between 6 and 7, read 6; if between 0
and 1, read 0; if between 9 and 0, read 9.
